Ideas for Sale

This blogging world that I am living in, it's a passion of mine.
I love getting to know all these girls, I feel like I know them...a lot of them I haven't even met...yet!
When I look for advice about mommy-hood and what it's like to raise children, start a family, and learn life lessons, I turn to Ashley Stock from Little Miss Momma

When I want to read about something humorous, awkward and exciting, I turn to Erin from
Living in Yellow

Style from The Daybook
When I want to get inspired by a girl who has started an amazing business from scratch
Rags to Stitches

But not once would I ever think about copying their designs.
Nor taking any of their ideas and pretending they were my own.
I turn to these girls because they were the first bloggers I looked up to. I remember just reading about them, hoping I could be them...but in my own unique way. I wanted to start my blog for myself because it was my creative outlet. I could be myself, create handmade goodies and show them off, and most importantly...be just one small part of the blogging community.
But I would never, ever, copy them.
Yes, there are many unique ideas out there.
What I wore Wednesday
Awkward/Awesome
Friday's Letters
Thankful Thursday
Tuesday Tango
Social Sunday
But reading those names...you know who the girls are that started those link ups, those posts.
No one is stopping you to take those ideas and make them:
What I wore Sunday
Awkward/Amazing
Dear Friday
Thankful Tuesday
Social Saturday
Monday Tango
But you wouldn't be original.
You would be intentionally taking someone's idea as your own.
It will not serve you well in your blog, because your readers would know you are not being authentic.
There are so many ideas out there in this huge world, why would you have to take someone else's idea and knowingly recreate it as your own because you cannot think of something original?
Like taking Fly Away Friday, from Pink on the Cheek
and turning it into Travel Thursday.
Pink on the Cheek

Copy-cat blogger
I sure hope that this has not happened to you.
It's unfortunate as a blogger to see your ideas displayed on someone else's blog.
Especially after they asked if they can use your idea as their own and you politely said no and they did it anyways. Then don't ask my opinion if you can't respect my decision.

  1. I've had this happen to me, and it's unfortunate. There's a fine line between copying and using someone as inspiration, but there's also a big grey area between using someone's exact idea and tweaking it to be your own. Knowing that a follower or reader of yours stole an idea is harsh, and I don't wish it upon anyone. I actually lost a blog friend because of this :/

I guess what makes it better is just knowing that integrity always wins in blogging.

  2. Oh no!! That's the worst!! How rude that they would even ask if it was okay and then to do it anyways!! Why even ask if you're just going to do it anyways!! I hope this never happens to me and I hope I never offend anyone by "borrowing" a post idea or something. Oh goodness...

  4. Oh wow!! that sucks!! As a teacher we "beg/borrow or steal" but we also know (and teach) that plagiarism is a no-no. However I admit to "borrowing" fashion/ outfit posts....but that's inspiration right? On a positive note...imitation is the sincerest form of flattery right?

  5. Wow, I can't believe someone actually did that after asking you and you kindly saying no, what was the point of even asking! At least anyone that reads her blog will know where the idea originally came from and she may even lose followers because of that. Dumb move on her part!

  7. That is very ballsy of this person to 1. ask for permission to do it and then 2. do it anyway when you said no

I would be so angry...and hurt....and upset. I wish I had some advice to offer you...but I'm not very good at that...I do know that this is a great post that I will be pinning on PInterest and she will know that she is WRONG and others will know as well!

  8. WOW. I am so sorry to read this. Especially since you said that she couldn't use it. Every now and then I post a project that I has taken a long time to finish and call it "Finally Finished Friday". I worry sometimes that someone is going to say they were doing this first- cause really, how could I be the only clever enough to come up with that!? I hope you at least get some sort of apology.

  11. That is incredibly pathetic however I see it happen in the blog world all the time. I've seen people copy exact posts from another blogger word for word and take credit for something they didn't even write! It's sad but happens frequently! So sorry it happened to you.
