School Memories

While leaving the movie theater last night, (we watched The Dark Knight rises, and yes Anne Hathaway is now considered a bad-ass in my eyes), E and I noticed that there were some teenagers hanging out outside.
Now bare in mind that it was almost 11:00 at night on a Monday.
My first thought was, does that girl’s momma know she is out hanging with boys this late?!
My second thought was, ummmm hasn’t school started for these kiddos??
Both of these thoughts made me feel old.
For this will be the first September I will not be going back to school. I have already graduated and said my goodbyes to college. I never will have a first day of school again.
Yikes.
So I was thinking about my favorite school memories.

I remember making sure I had the best outfit ever for the first day of school.
When I was starting the 5th grade, I just moved to Virginia from Texas. It was very trendy to have Keds and wear Gap Kids clothes. So on the first day of school I wore a cute outfit with matching socks and Keds. During the school year I made friends and they once commented, why do you always match your socks to your outfits? (well duh, they complete the ensemble) But I was so embarrassed that I just wore white socks
from then on. No more fun socks.

I remember once in middle school I stil rode the bus home from school. So I had this crush on this boy who rode the same bus. The Friday before Spring Break started, I was taking the bus home and saying my goodbyes to him since it would be a week until I saw him again. As I was getting off the bus….
I tripped and fell on my face.
Like no hands stopping me, thump.
I looked up to see if he saw me…yup.
His head was out the window and said “are you alright?”
Of course I wasn’t alright, I was so embarrassed!!!!

I also loved that my birthday was in September. I remember walking home from school and my mom would have the birthday flag out and I would get so happy!!
Yes, that is not my name, but you get the idea. The whole neighborhood would know it’s my birthday!

I also remember in school that I was so nervous to start high school.
Like super duper nervous.
I would scream, “I am just going to barf!” every time I would drive by the summer before freshman year.
But I did one smart move, I joined the cross country team in high school and that started two weeks before school started so we could get our miles in. I made so many friends and met lots of the older girls and they made me feel so comfortable, on the first day of school I  felt like I knew a lot of people!
I was excited to see them in the halls and in my classes.
All my nerves washed away.

So that was my years in school in a nutshell.
Totally nervous about making wrong outfit decisions, feeling so nervous I will barf, falling on my face, and running a TON during high school.
Do you miss the first day of school? Best or worst high school memory?
I would love to know your thoughts!
