I am in love with your ring!! wowza. ok, so I can tell you what NOT to skimp on ... photography. That is the only thing that I still look back on ... the only thing that I truly have to remember the big day (other than Dan of course). So many people don't do photography because it can get pricey. But, I truly believe it's the most important thing to spend your $ on.
just one more thing ... people care about two things (for the most part). Food and drinks. The little details ... they probably won't even notice. Try not to get wrapped up in the small stuff. I promise it won't matter 24 hours after the day is over. :)
I hear you! We're planning a wedding in a different town also!! The number 1 thing I kept hearing before you begin planning is create an email account just for your wedding. Then check out The knot for vendors. You can tell a lot through email. We had photographers respond with only prices and availability, we had others respond with huge CONGRATULATIONS! And that they were so honored we considered them. Always set up consultations before booking to be sure their the right fit! I've only been engaged for 3 weeks and I feel like I've done so much research already! You'll do great with planning! I agree with Tiff! Photography is pricey, but I feel it's so important to capture the day!Krista
Wow i wish i would of done the separate wedding email thing, your right i get bombarded with wedding emails now haha oh well, its exciting to plan.
When you find the answers share them with me! I have no problem pinning everything I love for a wedding, but I don't know how I'm going to make choices when deposits and payments are due. I think that you can skimp on invitations and paper goods. Don't skimp on photography and do your research on dresses you can find very similar dresses at very different prices.
Oh my gosh your ring is SO pretty! You look so beautiful and happy! Congratulations girlie!
Agree with Tiff-Photography don't skimp.. BUT I found a fab photographer in the Sacramento area that charged me under $3000 (which is cheap compared to most) and she did such a great job. Also I think you can skimp on the favors.. I was so worried that no one would like the favors but I know now after going to some weddings I didn't really mind, it was a plus if I got something at all! Also let me know if you nede anything up here in nor cal.. I have this great book from the knot of all the N. Cali locations..email me if ya want more info!
also one more thing.. I found the photog in sac but got married in the east bay so I just payed $50 for her travel fee (that was included in the $3k)
I planned our wedding from afar! 2500 miles, at that! I also hired a GOOD but starting out photographer that charged just $900 for the whole day. It was AMAZING.
Oh don't try to plan every thing yourself. I did that and it became so stressful and we almost eloped because of parents wanting certain things to be certain ways lol Yes, find a good photographer. Get recommendations on dj's. Don't be stingy on the flowers. I made that mistake, and I regret it. Favors? Meh...I'd say food or drink for a favor. We made customized jones soda bottles, so that was still used by our guests that day and yet they could keep if they wanted.
that ring is BEAUTIFUL lady! He did well. I love following along with you during this exciting time!
Well for me it was have a family member that can do everything. My mom is a seamstress and made all of my bridesmaid dresses(and invites) and my cousin caters and her sister is a photographer. My aunt is a cake decorator also. So i skimped on everything, but still got what i wanted. But since not everyones family is a walking wedding team, just try not to stress. Just look at the wonderful man you are going to marry and breath. Deffinately having someone to help...helps. My mom did a lot for my wedding.
congrats my dear! such an exciting time for you!
our wedding was in big sur, so we had a semi "destination" wedding.. and boy, if it werent for my mother, i would have LOST my shit. so lean on your friends and family!and, also, maybe consider a friday night or sunday wedding- it will save costs and i know, personally, we would show up to a wedding on either day... and plenty of people LIKE friday night weddings (:
oh.. and don't skimp on photography. trust me. it's the one thing i wouldnt budge on and now EVERYONE is so happy with the pictures, they completely forgot how much of a hassle it was to convince them spending 3grand + on photography was worth it.because it is.
I agree, go ALL OUT on photography. I planned my wedding from far away- about 8 hrs from where we were living. Yelp rocks.Check amazon and ebay for stuff, I bought my centerpieces for cheap off amazon, and ended up buying a ton of stuff (favors, etc) off ebay. Also, since we paid for the entire wedding ourselves (on a $7,000 budget) we bought one thing per paycheck/month. So we would buy favors one month, invites the next, etc.. It's better than a big old expense at once. And we got married on a Sunday. That helped. :)Megan @ thememoirsofmegan.com
I have a wedding obsession too. Clearly - I do wedding planning on the side. My best piece of advice - pick one or two things that mean the MOST to you & your hubby to be (music, food, photography, venue, flowers, etc.) and focus on those first. Once you are happy with those choices, everything else will start to fall in place. And skip the favors (unless its food!), its a waste of money and people don't take them home. :)
I love your ring!! It's absolutely stunning. To me, a reception is a party for the new couple and their family & friends to celebrate. I wouldn't skimp on the liquor or food, so I would probably see what I could skip for decorations--or make them myself. Center pieces, photo booths, reception games, even floral arrangements can all be found on pinterest with step-by-step instructions. I also have been to a lot of weddings that used the bridal party bouquets as table flowers.
Holy RING! That is BEAUTIFUL! We kept our wedding fairly small and a group of women from my husbands hometown planned most of it. Instead of fancy favors I just did monogrammed cookies, I think that saved us a lot! We made our own centerpieces with mason jars and the bridesmaids put their bouquets in some of them. It really did work out super easy!
Um...hello BLING! I eloped, so can't help with too much, BUT I will say- DON'T skimp on the photographer/videographer. You can't relive the day, but you can relive the memories!!
Skimp on favors. No one ever cares about them. :)xoxo, Leigh
Congratulations on your wedding! I'm currently planning mine for November 2013. I can completely understand your addiction to planning. I have been pinning and planning and organizing and dreaming of new ideas and things I want for the big day since we set the date about a month ago. :)I'm your newest follower.
