on my heart
Whenever I see my fiancé feeling a little bummed out, I ask him
"What's on your heart?"
I listen to his problems, because I feel like his problems are my problems too. He is my partner in life! I try to help him figure out solutions and to be positive even in down situations.
But tonight, I am asking myself the same,
"what is on your heart" question.
As you might know, my dog Mochi is my whole world. I mean I am not a crazy dog lady, but I can't imagine my life without him. I never knew how in love I could be with a simple dog. Okay, as I am typing this...it may come off as "crazy dog lady". But to make it simple, Mochi is a part of the family.
Well, my dog is sick and I don't know what is going on. Ever since we got Mochi he had a low immune system and fought quite a few battles already in his short life. The day we got him, he had kennel cough. He would cough like a human. It was heartbreaking to hear him coughing in the night. Of course we took him to the vet, but he was having a hard time beating it.
Then Mochi had giardia. This poor puppy battled for months with this. The doctor kept having to give him stronger and stronger medicines. It apparently is really hard to get rid of since even smelling the parasite puts it back in their system.
To top this off, Mochi then had roundworm...twice. Which is so gross. Brace yourself, an actual worm comes out in the poop. Of course it always happened when I walked Mochi. Blehhhh.
Mochi was in the clear for a long time, but now we have yet another issue. Mochi is itching himself bald. I can't stop him when I am at work, so he is spending his days biting and scratching his hair off.
He is really hamming it up to the camera, but the bald patch is growing at the bottom of his back. So I made an appointment for Mochi to see a specialist, a dog dermatologist to be exact. I guess these are exclusive doctors because I made this appointment in January and we don't get to go until February 13th! In the meantime I am trying to make him comfortable with spraying aloe on him a couple times of day.
I just can't understand what is happening. He has always been itchy, but now its just so much worse. I have switched his food so many times thinking he has a food allergy. I have given him more baths. He doesn't have fleas. I have wiped his paws every time we come back from outside.
I just really, really hope that this dermatologist will know what is going on. If you have any solutions about this problem, I am willing it hear any and all! Keep Mochi is your prayers that this isn't serious. I will know next Wednesday.
I am sorry to hear about your dog, I hate to see our pets feeling bad, but sounds like he's got lots of love! :)
ReplyDeleteI am so so sorry about your dog! have you tried happy jack? it's a specialized spray and we used it on our dog when he was itching a bald spot.
ReplyDeleteawww I hope that doctor finds a solution for your sweet pup! It's so sad to see them in pain.
ReplyDelete(ps: my husband always says that to me when I'm upset, What's going on in your heart? He'll say it to our puppy too when she's being crazy)
oh no! poor Mochi! I hope it goes well and you find a solution at your appointment!
ReplyDeleteMy dog has serious allergies, too. The vet put her on extremely special food (whitefish & potato) and she is not permitted to have ANY table scraps or little bits of human food. Hopefully the vet can find out what's wrong with Mochi and help him feel better soon!!
ReplyDeleteOhhh Mochi!!! I totally understand your feelings about the love for a dog - and I'll even call myself a crazy dog lady. Our dog is part of our family - he was our first child (before Presley arrived!) and we love and would do ANYTHING for him. I think it's amazing the lengths you are going to to keep Mochi safe and healthy, so many pet owners wouldnt do half of the things you have.
ReplyDeleteWe will keep Mochi in our prayers, xoxox
Poor Mochi! It's hard to see our animals sick :( Have you ever tried organic coconut oil? I have a friend who's dog scratched a lot and she would rub it on his itchy spots and it helped! You can also put some coconut oil in their dog food! Do some research on coconut oil and dogs and maybe it will be something you want to try :)
ReplyDeletePoor puppy! I hope you can figure out what's wrong, and get it fixed up real quick :) btw, he is such a pretty thing!
ReplyDeleteThis brought tears to my eyes. I'm so so sorry that he is going through this! I'll be praying the 13th goes well!
ReplyDeleteAwww, poor Mochi!! Dogs have a way of capturing our hearts for sure! I'll say a prayer for Mochi and his worried momma!
ReplyDeleteawww...I feel you. We got a puppy with the same problems at first. Kennel cough, giardia (twice), double ear infections and an upper respitory infection. Poor girl had a rough few months and we felt horrible because we could't communicate with her. So sad. The Vets and specialists are great and they will really help so hang in there and keep giving Mochi love! :)
ReplyDeleteBTW, our other dog had bad seasonal allergies that made him lick his paws raw. A little benedryl and the season change really helped!

I feel your pain and have gone through pretty much the same skin issues with my dog as you have. My dog was in pretty good health most of her life but when we moved from Miami to DC I noticed that she always had a oily spot on her back, itched all the time, was losing hair, had red/irritated skin, and just didn't seem to be herself anymore. So I took her to the vet, and after over a dozen visits I had tried everything. Tests to see if she had a bacteria growing on her skin, yeast infection, mites, switching from homemade food (steak, to chicken, to lamb, to duck, to fish) then I put her on this special hydrolyzed protein food (thought it was food allergies). Nothing worked. She was on steroids and a few other medications until the doctor finally told me I needed to make an appointment with the dermatologist. It was the best decision I made and the best $1000 I ever spent. Turns out my dog is allergic to everything, from grass to trees, to other animal feces, even certain insects. She now has to get a monthly shot of a mix that helps with the allergies she also takes a daily atopica pill. I have to wash her with a special shampoo every other week. Things are SO much better and when I read your story I had to send you a little note about my experience and that I really think your bubbie will feel so much better after her appointment! Good luck :)
ReplyDeleteMy dog does the same thing. When the weather changes is when it's worst. Our vet just gives her an allergy shot and we're good. Hopefully it's something like this! Good luck =) Hope Mochi is gets better.
ReplyDeleteoh no I hope he gets better. My sister's dog has had this several times and there's a cream she puts on him given by the vet. It's some weird skin allergy. Hope the specialist is able to give Mochi better meds :)
ReplyDeleteThis hits home for me as my dog was allergic to everything. Hoping Mochi stays healthier than Skip has! xoxoxoxo!
ReplyDeleteIs this the first time of Mochi having itchy bald spots? Our cat does the same thing every season change(it gets really bad when the weather warms up). She does it around her neck, and because she likes to keep her claws sharp, she makes herself bleed. Hopefully puppy will get better, and it won't be something you have to worry about forever
ReplyDeleteAw, I'm sorry your dog is going through such a tough time. My Westie has very sensitive skin (it turns black and itches when he's having a reaction) and we've learned that it's usually due to his diet. He eats Halo Spot's Stew salmon food, because a lot of dogs become allergic to chicken and beef, and it doesn't contain grain -- this has worked wonders! If we ever mess up and give him treats that have meat or grain, his skin gets itchy, changes colors, and starts smelling. It's gross!
ReplyDeleteaww sweet baby! hope he's ok! sammy goes through random periods of chewing on his feet or legs until there's no hair left but i think it's allergies. hope you get some answers!
ReplyDeletepoor mochi! I hope that it is just allergies! My mom's dog itches a lot (due to allergies) so she gets a shot every other month and takes pills every day :(
ReplyDeleteAw I hope your pup is ok!!
ReplyDeleteI'm really behind on this post, but I understand some of your concern and worry for Mochi. Our pup has roundworm, he has demidex which is a skin issue from mites and he has/had kennel cough. Our pups just can't catch a break! I hope that it's good news when I read the post about his doctor visit!
