How to Make a Custom Cheese Board

When I first started blogging, this was actually a blog to showcase DIY tutorials. I had no idea what I was doing, but I loved painting, using my Silhouette, and covering anything and everything in glitter. But over time, this blog transitioned away from being an outlet of DIY creativity and more towards online tutorials for bloggers and lifestyle posts. I am not sure why I stopped being creative, but I knew that I one day wanted to go back to it.

It was the perfect timing when Brit.Co began their #IamCreative campaign and challenge people to commit to a week of creativity.

Brit.Co was kind enough to let me pick out a Brit Kit and put me up to the challenge of spending a week living creatively. I chose the wood-burning kit because I thought it was something that I couldn’t screw up. I was worried that I would be frustrated during the process or upset if it didn’t turn out how I wanted. I figured, burning things could be a great stress reliever!  Today I am going to show you how to make a custom cheese board.

I received the Wood Burning Kit from Brit.Co and figured I am going to need a lot of space for the project. I waited until the weekend I was in Sonoma at my mom’s house so I could use her backyard.

The backyard was a perfect spot to get crafty. BONUS, there are a lot of tools at my mom’s house. I borrowed some heat-resistant gloves for when I was changing the tips on the wood-burning pen, a pair of pliers to change the tip of the pen, and an extra wood piece to practice on.

Then, I got to work.

The tip was crazy hot so whenever I wanted to change an alphabet letter, I would have to wait until the pen completely cooled down, change the letter, then wait for the pen to heat up again. This is where the heat-resistant gloves came in. I wanted to switch the tips faster so I wasn’t spending a lot of time waiting. My assistant, Mochi, was there to keep me company.

I didn’t have a huge design plan for the cheese board, but I knew I wanted to write words on the board.

I gotta be honest, this project kinda took me all day. I wasn’t upset about it because I knew I wanted to have letters on the board and that would be time-consuming. Overall, I relaxed and enjoyed myself while being crafty! Mom and I thought it needed a little bit more after I had taken this picture. So that’s when I added the word ENJOY in the middle. I love that now that the cheese board is finished, I still have the wood-burning pen to have more fun on more projects. You can see other projects done with the kit here.
